Company News >> OLED TV suffered setbacks! Well-known big factory emergency recall 17th,May,2021
According to local Australian media reports, LG Electronics Australia finally confirmed that in 2021, LG will recall different batches of TVs in Australia in response to the overheating of the power supply boards in OLED TVs and replace them for free for Australian users.

The reason for the recall of OLED TVs this time is the overheating of the power supply board. Many people in the industry have started intense discussions on this.

The focus of most people's controversy is whether Australia is LG's last recall plan? Some people in the industry feel that LG Electronics’ recall plan may affect the popularity of OLED TVs in the market.

Regarding LG's recall of OLED TVs, it has also caused many consumers to complain.

Some consumers think that OLED is the future, and they can’t give up food because of choking; some netizens said that the technology seems to be immature, not durable, and prone to problems. Is it too fast to promote OLED now?!

In the author's opinion, OLED is relatively outstanding in the industry in terms of display effects, although only a few manufacturers such as LG are constantly focusing on its development.

However, as the technology continues to mature, life span, size, and resolution have been improved. After the yield rate is raised to a higher level, the quality and safety factor of OLED TVs will be effectively improved, and the probability of problems will be lower.

In July 2020, LG announced a domestic OLED TV recall plan in South Korea; in September 2020, LG announced the recall of OLED TVs in the Chinese market. The products involved 13 models of OLED TVs, and the number of recalls was 9,434 units.

In April 2021, LG stated that in Australia, in response to the overheating of the power supply board in OLED TVs, it will recall different batches of TVs and replace them for Australian users free of charge.

According to the author's understanding, in 2020, LG recalled OLED TVs from the Korean and Chinese markets, and the reasons for the recall are basically the same.

The product has a single quality problem with the capacitor (X-Cap) used to eliminate the interference of impurities in the input power supply, which causes the current in the power supply board to increase, thereby causing overheating.

Under special circumstances, the back panel of the TV may be partially blackened or melted. This is also the reason for the third product recall in Australia.

Why didn't LG recall all OLED TVs with "overheating problems" at one time? Is this technology immature or a quality control problem?

When discussing the matter with industry veterans, the author felt that the "problem" of OLED TVs may not have much to do with technology, and more reasons may be related to quality control.

The frequently searched "OLED TV" is not exposed because of technical flaws. It also means that Korean panel companies have gradually matured in the field of OLED technology, and quality control problems are not difficult to solve.

In the future, some companies that can mass produce OLED panels are about to usher in a "harvest" period, leaving little time for relevant Chinese companies to develop OLED panels and technologies.

"The quality problem of the capacitor (X-Cap) interfered by impurities in the power supply", from the official reasons, the author and industry friends feel that the OLED TV has a heating phenomenon, which is likely to be a problem with "a certain capacitor".

Regarding OLED TVs, in terms of technology, if the technology is not mature, it is prone to "burn-in problems", which is also the main reason that restricts the development of OLED TVs.

If the "burn-in" problem caused the OLED TV to be recalled, then it is likely that there is something wrong with the OLED TV technology.

However, the author found that most of the products recalled in these few times are "quality problems of capacitors (X-Cap) interfered by impurities in the power supply". Consumers do not need to "brain" the label of OLED technology problems, which causes these "problems." The reason for this is probably a "quality control problem" in the production process of the enterprise.

From the side point of view, LG may not be able to do a good job in a certain link when producing OLED TVs, leading to quality control problems.

In terms of promoting OLED TV or technology, LG still needs to strengthen rectification and reform, pay attention to every production detail, and ensure product quality.

In the author's opinion, every new technology emerges and develops with a lifespan, and any technological maturity is a parallel between promotion and maturity.

At that time, CRT had an infinite reputation in the domestic market, and it was in the position of "Leader of Martial Arts". However, CRTs also have "small flaws"; LEDs have eliminated the status of CRTs in one fell swoop with the characteristics of no bright spots and no dead pixels.

Nowadays, LED TVs are also facing the threat of being replaced by OLEDs. Because OLED TVs have the advantages of self-illumination, direct control of the brightness changes of pixels, no light leakage, flat and flexible appearance, and energy saving and power saving.

In my opinion, OLED TV is the future, but there will still be a parallel market with OLED TV for a long time, and each has its own advantages.

For my country’s panel and TV companies, it is necessary to actively deploy OLEDs to increase the panel yield rate. When the OLED TV market is not yet mature, catch up and surpass, and strive not to be disadvantaged when the OLED panel market breaks out, and keep yourself away from "seeing others." The embarrassing situation of eating meat and not even drinking soup.
