Company News >> OLED expert: 1.3-inch display means VR 29th,Nov,2021
In 2021, with the explosion of the meta-universe concept, the mobile VR product (Quest 2) exceeded tens of millions on the C-side. VR once again returned to the spotlight and ushered in a turning point in the industry, entering the Gartner technology maturity curve. Climbing period.

From this year's Facebook Connect (renamed Meta), including the 6DoF game set released by Huawei recently, we have also seen the iterative direction of the next generation of VR products-6DoF short-focus VR glasses.

Meta showcased Cambria, a new VR product that will be released next year. From the product point of view, it uses the Pancake folding light path solution, and has 6DoF tracking and positioning of the head and hands, which can realize the full-color See Through perspective function.

It is an irreversible trend for the form of VR products to become lighter and thinner. In the process of achieving lighter and thinner, it is inseparable from the support of the underlying technology and upstream supply chain. Consumption and improving the experience are the top priorities.

At present, the core display solution of VR headsets basically uses Fast-LCD, mainly due to its low price. In order to quickly push VR products to the consumer market, cost reduction has almost become a common choice for all VR headset manufacturers. But everyone knows that Fast-LCD is a transitional solution for VR devices at this stage, because it has a big gap with silicon-based OLEDs in terms of brightness, contrast, response time, power consumption, and volume.

On November 18, according to Korean media ETnews, Apple also announced that it is developing an XR device that includes an "OLEDoS display" (OLED on Silicon, silicon-based OLED), which again demonstrates the future trend of silicon-based OLED. And on this track, domestic companies are trying their best to catch up, including Yunguang, many domestic companies are establishing large-scale silicon-based OLED production lines.

For VR headsets, Yunguang's 1.3-inch silicon-based OLED began mass production

In October of this year, Nanjing Yunguang’s first 1.3-inch silicon-based OLED display was officially lit, the model is SRS5020, which is its first product for the VR market. As a manufacturer that has been deeply involved in the display field for 16 years, the new products have many bright spots in terms of parameters.

According to official data, the SRS5020 silicon-based OLED display has a 2K resolution (2048×2048px), a 90% color gamut, a brightness of 3000 nits, and supports a 120Hz refresh rate. It is said that it now has mass production capacity and accepts orders for the market.

Dr. Ji Yuan (hereinafter referred to as Ji Bo), the founder of Yunguang Technology, said that SRS5020 will be mainly used for VR head-mounted display products. "VR is the entrance to Metaverse, and the immersion it brings is the most cost-effective way to realize Metaverse. Our initial positioning is the OLED microdisplay for VR. SRS5020 is just such a product, our market goal very clearly."

2021 coincides with the "first year" of the meta-universe concept, and the VR/AR industry is recovering. The birth of the SRS5020, which is designed for VR headsets, seems to have caught up with the best time.
