Company News >> Sony will invest 200 million US dollars to develop OLED panel technology 23th,Jan,2018
Sony, Japan's consumer electronics manufacturer, will invest 22 billion yen (about 235 million U.S. dollars) in the future in the development of large-size OLED panel technology.
In November 2007, Sony announced the production of the world's first panel made of new OLED technology at a price of 200,000 yen. OLEDs use organic or carbon-containing compounds that emit light when current passes. Unlike LCDs, OLEDs do not require backlights, making the OLED TV lighter and energy-efficient. With a thickness of just 3mm, the OLED TV will deliver 40% less power than an LCD and is ideal for watching fast moving images, such as sports, due to its fast response, high color and high reproducibility.
However, this technology is still quite difficult to apply to the large-scale OLED panel at present, Sony's current OLED TV screen is only 11 inches, about 2 pieces of CD size.
