Company News >> BOE and Huaxing Optoelectronics face 10.5 OLED panel technology selection 7th,June,2018
Recently, LG Display decided to invest in the 10.5-generation OLED line at P10 in Paju. Instead of going through the LCD, it decided to directly produce OLEDs. In addition to the current White OLED (WOLED) technology, OLED technology is also considering inkjet printing technology.

In addition, Samsung Display has developed quantum-dot (QD)-OLED large-size OLED panel technology, which has added annoyance to Chinese panel makers. To technically catch up with LG and Samsung, narrowing the technology gap becomes more and more difficult.

According to industry news on May 3, BOE and CSOT are earning their thoughts on using display technologies on the new generation 10.5 generation line. LG Display has recently accelerated its 10.5-generation line OLED investment, and its investment in large-size next-generation panel production lines has intensified.

Prior to BOE and CSOT, the 8th-generation line of large-size OLED technology has been laid out as an experimental line. BOE and CSOT are actively developing R&D ink jet printing process technology, which does not need to deposit organic substances but directly print on the substrate. The process is simplified and the material loss is smaller.

BOE and Huaxing Optoelectronics continue to engage in the research and development of 8-generation OLED technology. BOE intends to omit evaporation of organic materials and plans to use inkjet printing technology. Huaxing Optoelectronics also develops inkjet printing technology.

However, LGD's commercialization of WOLED technology is the only technology currently on the market that has passed mass production testing, and has high stability. Besides BOE's inkjet printing process, it also considers investing in WOLED technology, choosing between the two. Not only that, but after Samsung's display announced the development of QD-OLED technology, BOE also assessed follow-up.

Huaxing Optoelectronics recently announced that its 10.5-generation line (T7) will mass-produce ultra-large-size OLED panels. The inkjet printing process will be put into operation in 2021. Juhua Printing Display Technology established by the parent company TCL Actively engaged in inkjet printing process 31-inch OLED sample manufacturing, but China Star Optoelectronics does not rule out the possibility of using WOLED and QD-OLED.

Secondly, Huaxing Optoelectronics' 6th generation flexible OLED production line has not yet started mass production, which has caused uncertainties for Huaxing Optoelectronics to invest in next-generation panel technology. BOE has recently launched 6 generations of flexible OLED mass production, but Huaxing Optoelectronics is still in the production line construction phase.

In June 2017, China Star Optoelectronics held the groundbreaking ceremony of the 6th generation Flexible OLED production line (T4). It started to move into the machine equipment in May 2018. CSOT has no mass production experience on large-size or small-to-medium size OLED panels, which makes it face certain pressure when selecting a new generation of display technology to operate the G10.5 production line.

According to relevant industry sources, “R&D technology is completely different from actual mass production technology. What kind of large-scale OLED production technology will be adopted by Chinese panel makers needs continuous observation”, “in order to realize high-level mass production and occupy an industry leading position, the new The choice of a generation of technologies requires more strategic thinking."
