According to the latest research data, the smartphone market has entered a stagnation period, the sales volume of LCD panels has declined, and the OLED market is in a good position.
According to the survey, sales of LCD panels fell 22% year-on-year to US$6.9 billion, while sales of OLEDs increased 20.3% to US$4.3 billion. LCD panels accounted for 60.1% of all small and medium-sized panels, compared with 69.6% a year ago; at the same time, the proportion of OLED panels increased from 28.5% last year to 38% this year.
In the first quarter of this year, the size of the small and medium-sized panel market was slightly higher than US$11.4 billion, down 9.8% from US$12.7 billion in the same period of last year, mainly due to the decline in demand in the smart market.
Thanks to the prevalence of full-screen, the demand for small and medium-sized AMOLED panels has also increased. In 2018, the global small and medium-sized AMOLED panel production capacity will reach 13.6 million square meters, up 51% from last year. It is expected that the production capacity will climb to 27.3 million square meters in 2021, which is multiplier compared with 2018.
Small and medium-sized OLEDs are the core components of smart phones, and the original price is relatively high, so it has become a new competitive high ground for display manufacturers. The Chinese government has vigorously fostered the small and medium-sized OLED industry and invested heavily in it. Although domestic smart phone manufacturers are still using Korean OLEDs, with the continuous improvement of domestic technology standards, the use of domestic OLEDs has become an inevitable trend.
