Company News >> 2021 OLED panel market will reach 75 billion US dollars 16th,Oct,2018
OLEDs and flexible OLEDs that can be thinly attached like paper are expected to become the main products of OLEDs for televisions. The soluble material technology for inkjet printing processes that can reduce the production cost of large-sized OLED panels is approaching the commercialization stage.

UBI Research, a Korean market research agency, revealed in the 2017 OLED Korea Forum that OLEDs will have higher performance and more design in the future, and the input cost is expected to gradually decrease.

Yin Haorong, director of LG Display, believes that the future of large-size OLED TVs can evolve into ultra-thin wallpapers and flexible forms attached to the wall. The OLED panel is thinner than the LCD and has the advantage of being able to exhibit a free form such as bending or winding. LG Display began producing ultra-thin panels like wallpaper in 2017.

In the global high-end TV market, the proportion of OLED TV is rising rapidly. In the long run, it is expected to cross the high-end market and enter the middle-end market to become popular.

Yin Yurong pointed out that in 2017, Sony will also join the OLED TV camp, and more TV manufacturers will launch OLED products. In 2016, the shipment of large-size OLED panels was 900,000, and it is expected to grow to 1.7 million to 1.9 million in 2017.

Yin Yurong also said that LG Display will prepare about 80 吋 8K resolution panels by 2020. Panel prices will decrease with capacity expansion, and the long-term goal is to make high-resolution OLED panel supply prices lower than LCD panels, and is currently continuing to develop technology and expand production capacity.

One of the core technologies to reduce the production cost of OLED panels is inkjet printing technology. UDC (Universal Display Corporation), Merck, DuPont and other large companies have already begun to develop OLED materials in solution form. In addition to research to improve the basic performance of OLED materials, such as age, efficiency, color performance, low power consumption, etc., the industry is accelerating research and development for the most suitable materials for inkjet printing. At present, Korea and the mainland are actively discussing the introduction of OLED inkjet printing technology.

UDC develops the Novel BY Display Architecture inkjet printing technology. Generally, OLEDs are red (R), green (G), and blue (B) three primary colors side by side, but UDC is structured by arranging yellow (Y) and blue pixels side by side, and red and green pixels in yellow pixels for color filtering. sheet.

Mike Hack, vice president of UDC, explained that the color reproduction of this product is quite high, and it is suitable for large-size and small-sized OLED panels, and can reduce the pattern evaporation process to two stages, effectively reducing costs.

The major panel manufacturers continue to study how to use the advantages of high OLED design freedom, the global OLED market is expected to grow rapidly in 2021.

According to UBI Research, the size of the OLED panel market will grow to 1.7 billion units in terms of shipments in 2021, with revenues of approximately $75 billion. South Korea's panel makers account for more than 80% of the market, while mainland panel makers account for 10 to 15%.

In terms of investment in OLED capacity in 2017, South Korea has 146,000 pieces per month and 105,000 pieces of mainland China. The investment scale of the mainland has increased 1.8 times compared with 2016. The 6th generation line accounted for 81% of the total capacity investment, which was 235,000 pieces, which was doubled compared with 2016.
